The Dipple & Conway Archive Exhibition
The Dipple & Conway archive collection is on display at the Museum of Norwich from Thursday 20 until Saturday 29 October. A personal family collection of historical optical artefacts, including glass eyes, sight tests, vintage frames and sunglasses; the fascinating items have been accumulated by four generations of Conways over the past 100 years. With vintage spectacles and sunglasses also on show, dating from the 1920s to modern times, the exhibition also reveals the top trends in eyewear, throughout the 20th century.
For younger visitors this half-term, Dipple & Conway is also hosting a week-long series of events at the museum. The ‘Now You See It’ activities offer children a fun and educational insight into the world of optometry and eye care.
Families can get up close to equipment used by opticians and discover how eye tests have changed over the years. Visitors can inspect some of the glasses on display and play a game of eye spy by taking a trail around the museum, spotting different spectacles that have been hidden within the museum displays.
The ‘Now You See It’ half-term activities will include:
- Tuesday 25th to Friday 28th October, 10am – 4.30pm. Take part in the Eye Spy trail around the museum.
- Tuesday 25th October, 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm. Object Handling, including spectacles and accessories.
- Wednesday 26th October, 1pm – 4pm. Show and Tell, with one of Dipple & Conway’s professional opticians.
- Thursday 27th October, 1pm – 4pm. The Science of Sight, techniques and equipment that have helped millions see more clearly, part of Norwich Science Festival.
